Teachers’ Day Celebration :
September 5th being the Day of the teachers, it was celebrated in a
grand scale at Infant Jesus School, Chikmagalur. The programme began
by invoking the Almighty through a song and later by a prayer dance
by the students. Br. Victor Crasta, the principal accorded a warm
welcome to the chief guest of the day Rev. Fr. Edwin Monis, OFM Cap.
who is presently working as a parish priest in Japan. The chief
guest in his speech expressed his desire to become a teacher and
opined that to be a teacher is one of the noblest professions in the
world. He also thanked the teachers for moulding the students to
become better citizens. Bro. Victor Crasta, the principal was all in
praise for the teachers and said that “the job of the teachers is
not only service but sacrifice”. Bro. Vinod Colaco spoke on behalf
of the staff and the entire programme was compered by Nithyanjai H
Gowda, one of the students of Std. IV. Apoorva and Hemanth of Std. V
spoke in Kannada and English respectively about the qualities of the
teachers. Fr. Lawrence Dilraj Sequeira, the vice principal blessed
all the staff and students. All the 23 staff were given a beautiful
gift each to remember their yeomen services to the school. Cakes
were distributed to all the students and a sumptuous meal was served
to all the staff. In the afternoon various sports and competitions
between the staff and students were held. As a culmination of the
programme, the construction work for Infant Jesus Friary was blessed
and started. Mr. Sunil Rodrigues, the contractor of the building
distributed sweets to all the students and sponsored the programme
of the day.
